Re: Trade Value
Related to Daniel's point, I think at the high end of the win total spectrum each additional win is marginally more difficult to achieve, and large win increases from a baseline of an already high win% require something extraordinary: either the addition a truly superlative talent, or replacing a pa...

Re: Help Calculating APM Using R
Based on my initial perusal, it looks like there is no way to get pbp data unless you want to pay for it. Does that sound about right to you?

Help Calculating APM Using R
I recently learned a bit about how to use R and I am looking for something to do with it. I thought calculating APM for the 2016-17 might be a reasonable project for me this summer. I was wondering if people on this forum could give me some advice on how to proceed. I think the most important part w...

Re: 2017 draft analytics
Biggest difference between Fultz and Russell is ability to get to the rim by himself and also draw contact. Fultz was a far more dynamic own-shot creator in college than Russell. Partly that is superior skill. Partly that is superior athleticism.

Re: Offensive trends and net results
I think ref behavior has almost certainly changed. To prove it, I guess I would look to see if there has been any change in the ratio of And1s to total FTAs. I'd be willing to bet that ratio has gone down the last 5 years.

Re: Intentional foul rule change options
Just adopt "advantage" rules like they have in soccer and hockey. That fixes the all intentional fouling issues-- from Hack-a-Whomever to, even more importantly to my mind, intentional fouling to stop a fast break.

Question About RAPM Inputs
Someone on a team centric blog pointed out something about J.E.'s site that I cannot explain. What do the "Off. On" and "Def. On" numbers in the team pages refer to? They do not seem to correspond to the on/off ORtg numbers at either NBA.com or B-R.com, so what are they?

Re: Statman's new site....
Dr Positivity-- Thanks for the reply. I've read a lot of your stuff now and it's pretty interesting. Question about Nash: I can ignore a lot of stat-stuff about a prospect, and I can almost see where you're coming from on the guy based on the videos I've watched, but what I cannot really get over is...

Dr. Positivity--
Do you have a site where you post your analysis/scouting of college prospects? I would be really interested in hearing your insight as I've noticed you have a fairly unique take on things.

If you were on iTunes I would definitely subscribe. I don't know about these things, is there a practical reason why your podcast is not on iTunes?

Re: It's spelled with an r, not an n
wilq basically nails it about the difficulty of assigning credit for the kind of group decision making you see in front offices. There is also a related issue here, which is that analytics only really promises that you will know more with it than without it. If, for whatever reason, you choose not t...

Re: It's spelled with an r, not an n
First, their general strategy seemed to be to trade away draft picks, recognizing that the bottom twenty slots aren't going to produce much value. (Implicitly, I suppose that this means that they didn't think their special analytic sauce could be applied to the draft. Perhaps someone here has some ...
