Re: What are the smartest NBA blogs/sites?

BI is the way to go for links to detailed reporting & analysis.

Sometimes an issue of too many choices but pick a few, maybe come later.

Re: Doncic

Doncic on Mavs (out of 20 who played there this season): Efg%, 10th best, TS% 10th, Offensive Rating 8th, TO% 14th. Mavs' biggest factor issues are efg% and own turnovers. Doncic is a big part of both problems directly, not a leader directly. He probably makes things easier for others in some ways. ...

Re: What are the smartest NBA blogs/sites?

If you want smart about a particular team or player, go to the best team blog. Platform varies by team. There can be a lot of mediocre and bad takes / arguments but often a lot of good too to be found or even just hinted at to prompt deeper research by you. The mainstream media outlets of "news", "r...

Re: NBA - DRPM

Find DRAPM factors (rd1190 on twitter, occasionally Jerry Engelmann, or others), compare with boxscore based four factors, individual, team, on / off, matchup. Analyze everything you can find. The answer is not simple or fixed. If you want the answer for gambling purposes, split data by opponent pla...

Re: NBA - DRPM

I dunno the proportions of the Boxscore component to RAPM (not sure if JE has disclosed). But I do remember that the proportion shifts during the season toward more RAPM. I am not sure what share is RAPM at start of season but I assume by end of season it is at least 2/3rds RAPM. Any clarifications ...

Re: Who is Most Valuable in 2018-19?

With the official MVP voters, the narrative matters a lot it appears.Who's turn is it? It appears to be Giannis' turn to me. If Harden gets again it will be influenced by yay points, notoriety and personality. It is not going to anyone but these two and I doubt anyone else is as close in the voting ...

Re: Who is Most Valuable in 2018-19?

Did Morey overpay to get C Paul? Was it necessary? Would Harden and the depth instead of Paul (original or reconfigured by use of that cap space & trades) have done better than with Paul? Last season, this season, future seasons? Harden might have gotten even bigger in stats, not that MVP voting mat...

Re: 2018-19 lineup analysis

Spurs lineup management analysis: 437 lineups used so far. Just 32% cumulatively positive. 9 non-dink (over the threshold of 1 per game for season), 428 dink to super-dink. Of 9 most used, they are almost evenly split between great and terrible performers. 4 lineups for 17% of total time, averaging ...

Re: Doncic

Doncic's RPM estimate down slightly from its peak to date. 52nd in league. Slightly behind, among others, R Gay, T Young, D Powell. Slightly ahead of Aminu, Kleber, Mason Plumlee, Muscala. Different kinds of talents. Call them lower first tier or second tier players (or even great third tier players...

Re: Doncic

Doncic on court vs. off, team shoots better with but it is not him directly, it is his teammates by a pretty significant amount. Assist rate down almost 5% on vs off. He may be passing alot but his teammates do better at creating assisted buckets without him. Rebounding slightly better on defensive ...

Re: What are the smartest NBA blogs/sites?

It sorta depends what you want. Most sophisticated math, new data or a new twist in evaluation / presentation, team or player overall evaluation considering everything, strategy review, etc. For most sophisticated math, probably squared2020.com. Timely analysis of one thing with new data or a new cu...

Re: Who is the MVP for 2018-19?

It is a 2 man race, Giannis & James. Giannis is very likely to win it. The timing of the actual vote might be a key factor in the outcome. It is supposed to be a regular season award; but announced in last June, I have to think that the playoff performances will affect sentiment.

Re: Doncic

Thanks for the additional information. 70% of the schedule to date has been after 0-1 days rest. That is more him than the rested version. His FT rate is slightly above median for this group. FT%, bottom 20%. 3pt rate, third highest. 3pt fg% up there higher than most earlier era players. TO rate, bo...

Doncic

At All-Star break, Doncic had big per game numbers and showed versatility in a big and growing role. His assists climbed after Smith's injury absence then departure. His usage is rising. 29% for season and 32-33% since the turn of the new year. The recent usage would be higher than all but about 5 g...

Bucks and RPM

At least one Bucks analyst was publicly critical of RPM or at minimum cautious or unimpressed and dismissive of it to my ears. I think another indicated he didnt use it much to me privately but I can't be 100% sure of that memory. So what has RPM shown for the current Bucks? All 5 starters positive ...
