Re: Some trivia. Regular season 2012-2013 data

Yes, the playoff seeding of both Ind and Bos would have been unaffected by the outcome of the game, so rather than postpone it, they cancelled it.

Re: Reconstructing Box Plus/Minus

If you put an exponent less than 1 on that Ast*Reb, you would reduce the outlier exaggeration.

Re: Playoff RAPM (Regular Season Informed)

What is the number after the name? The link only leads to the same 60 players. Is there more somewhere? It's surprising to see Tyson Chandler among the playoff improvers. Always his numbers drop off in postseason, often by a lot. Ray Allen also declined more than the norm, in boxscores. And Marion, ...

Re: Early 2019-2020 season commentary

I ranked all '90s draftees among their classmates by averaging their career rankings in Minutes, Win Shares, and total production (Pts+Reb+Ast+Stl+Blk) For example, #24 pick of 1992, Latrell Sprewell, would end up #1 in his class in career RS minutes; #2 in total production; #4 in Win Shares; rank a...

Re: Early 2019-2020 season commentary

Among 2018 rookies with at least 2500 minutes in 2 years, Jason Tatum is 7th in BPM (of 20) -- after Ben Simmons, Adebayo, Jarrett Allen, John Collins, Ball, and Mitchell. http://bkref.com/tiny/rd4ph BPM of only 0.1 does seem meager for a guy getting 30+ mpg with a contender. His 2-yr RPM is about 2...

Re: Early 2019-2020 season commentary

Sorry I don't see trades or who signed where.
I can look up each team at b-r.com under Transactions; where it's current thru June 30.

Re: Early 2019-2020 season commentary

Is there anywhere one list of offseason player movements from team to team, by trade or free agency or whatever? I'm curious if the East or West conference are getting/losing talent. Also, why are AD and DMC again on the same team? The 2 highest Usage centers with one ball? Doesn't LeBron still just...

Re: ULTIMATE GOAT LIST (Neutralized Stats) updated through 2019 postseason

It looks like your ranking number is based on shortfall from the leaders in the other 2: Value Shares: LeBron 340.24 VS/36: Jordan .257 Ranking is by All Time Score, in which ATS = (340.24-VS)*0.01 + (.257-VS/G)*10 ... or something like that? This results in smaller-is-better ranking; and not much i...

Re: ULTIMATE GOAT LIST (Neutralized Stats) updated through 2019 postseason

Hey, nice to see this again. I've taken a couple years off. Do you give extra weight to playoff Value Shares? Any extra for Finals performance / winning? And your per game metric is actually per minute X 36, yes? After LeBron and Jordan, the rest of the top 10 are all bigs -- Karl Malone the least c...

Re: 2019 playoffs

Both GSW and Tor being high in 3PAr, there are fewer shots inside the arc. Each team had at least one of the best mid range shooters in the league: Durant and Leonard. Both teams were top 5 in FT% at over .800, both below avg in FTA/G Given they were 1st and 3rd in eFG%, you can't fault their shot s...

Re: Reconstructing Box Plus/Minus

I don't think when they occur in combination they are worth more than if Lebron James goes coast to coast. Does "coast to coast" imply he got the defensive rebound and subsequently scored an unassisted FG? If so, then it's probably equal to getting an offensive rebound and scoring. But if it's " we...

Re: Reconstructing Box Plus/Minus

Supposing 5 players all go the same 40 or 48 minutes and get varying number of offensive rebounds; and we credit them with the suggested values of .18 when they get the OReb, .04 when a teammate gets it -- they add up like this: pos: C PF SF SG PG Tot OReb: 4 3 2 1 0 10 @0.18 0.72 0.54 0.36 0.18 0.0...
