Re: Offseason NBA Player Movement Predictions
I think Isaiah Thomas and Greg Monroe are going to get huge RFA offers too.

Re: Offseason NBA Player Movement Predictions
A potentially underreported story in the media right now is the amount of cap space available that so many teams have. Look at the teams at the bottom of this "committed money" list for 2014/2015: http://hoopshype.com/salaries.htm Now, do those teams (especially Philly) want to tank for on...

Offseason NBA Player Movement Predictions
I'll start with the Heat, hopefully others will chime in with their own: Despite being the 4th/5th best player on the team, Mario Chalmers might be the player that affects the team's off-season strategy the most. We know the Heat will prioritize the Big 3; will they pay the repeater tax to bring bac...

Re: Top reasons why NBA won’t ever be as big domestically as
I think they should experiment with widening the court in the D-League. The court is currently 94 x 50 feet wide, and when you watch big men with long feet tiptoeing around the three-point line in the corner, it's a little bit ridiculous. Widen the court, then make the three-point line a true arc, 2...

Re: Top reasons why NBA won’t ever be as big domestically as
Well, the counter argument is that it's much safer than the NFL. And more tech-friendly for America's attention-shifting youth. If the NFL has a death on the field in the next 10 years, will that lead to long term erosion of league fan support? If upper-middle class and wealthy people stop letting t...

Re: Trade commentary
The trade I'm rooting for from a league wide intrigue standpoint involves the Nets, who are the only team in the league that appears unfazed by the luxury tax. The Knicks balked at matching Jeremy Lin's contract. The Bulls won't even sign a 13th player for a full season. The Heat amnestied Mike Mill...

Re: Rough early estimate of chances to win this season's til
Those two figures for Miami and Indiana still look a little low to me. We could fast forward to game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals right now, with that series at 3-2. That's how good those two teams are, and bad the East's depth is relative to the West. Those Bovada odds are still giving the EC...

Re: Should defenses let long 2s go uncontested?
There was a great YouTube clip a few years back of Gilbert Arenas making 81 out of 100 threes from the corner after practice. The Spurs in the Steve Kerr/Brent Barry had similar competitions where the winner broke 80. People who play basketball for a living are shockingly good when unguarded. Someon...

Help calculating the break-even point for 3 pt shooting
High school girls coach here in a 'C' level league. Im coaching again for the first time in several years and analytics have me re-thinking some of my philosophy. The league I'm in suffers from 'beehive' mentality - poor floor spacing, and thus constant live-ball TO's and jump ball change of possess...

Re: Team 3pt FGA / mid-range FGA ratios
Great post. I agree that the Rockets' unloading of Scola contributes to their eye-popping ratio of 3's. So, here's an under-reported story moving forward: None of the free agents the rockets are perpetually linked to are good shooters. Josh Smith is the most egregious 'bad long two' jacker in the ga...

Re: The Worst Shot in High School Basketball
Thanks again for the great feedback guys. I plan to start recording data on this next season. This response is a bit long-winded, because I literally thinking through a coaching strategic philosophy going forward with your help. Thanks for staying with it. Basically, I am re-thinking how I would con...

Re: The Worst Shot in High School Basketball
Thanks for your feedback and links, guys. I am very grateful. To clarify Kevin's last point: "floor spacing would be a crucial consideration because transition defenses tend to be so bad. That is a criticism of the corner 3 at higher levels." By this Kevin means: corner 3's are more likely...

The Worst Shot in High School Basketball
I would be grateful for any collective common-sense wisdom, research knowledge, or Internet linkage you could provide to answer the above question. Try to think about this from the perspective of low-level high school basketball. Take three shooters of equal skill and experience, in a controlled set...
