Re: Vote for the all-time top 85 players

I guess it is safe to say this vote is over when guys like Elton Brand have more votes than Bob Cousy.

Re: Vote for the all-time top 35 players

Hard to fathom seeing Wallace with same amount of votes for the top 35 of all time as Cousy or Mikan.

Re: Vote for the all-time top 15 players

Not picking Oscar is far worse. 3 for 6 on West is out there as well. Only 1 vote for Baylor and for Moses is strange too. I have Duncan as my 16 so just missing, Hakeem at 20 and Shaq at 27. I understand people seeing things differently, but if they didn't see those guys it is hard to understand h...

Re: Vote for the all-time top 15 players

To the person who didn't vote for Shaq or Olajuwon and the two people who didn't vote for Duncan: please explain. Not picking Oscar is far worse. 3 for 6 on West is out there as well. Only 1 vote for Baylor and for Moses is strange too. I have Duncan as my 16 so just missing, Hakeem at 20 and Shaq ...

Re: Vote for the all-time top 5 players

Not sure if you are kidding or not talking about Russell and Malone. Russell would be the best player in the game in any era. He makes defense important again which isn't always the case. Also he was special in a Jackie Robinson kind of way. He was mentally strong to handle being a strong role model...

Re: Vote for the all-time top 5 players

Some silly examples that I won't jump on, but if starting a team, my first pick is Russell and I'd be fine with any of the other guys at other positions.

Re: Vote for the all-time top 5 players

I know it won't be popular, but I will stick with Wilt, Russell, Oscar, Bird, Magic.

Re: Vote players into our alltime top 140, etc.

Not that I wouldn't be amenable to Gervin ranking a little lower than typically because from what I can tell he was an awful defender. . I've said that before and got heat for it, but its true. It is another example of relying on statistics instead of seeing the game. Gervin would leave his man and...

Re: Vote players into our alltime top 140, etc.

If your appreciation of the game comes to a dead halt in the mid '70s, that's shown by your insistence that every guy from earlier is better than every one from after. If it only begins then -- like, when we start seeing steals, blocks, turnovers -- that is also evident, if you want to state it. I ...

Re: Vote players into our alltime top 140, etc.

Regarding the depth of guards in the '60s or other times: My point was that all-league and all-star mentions have a varying amount of significance, depending on the strength at a position. With just 2 all-NBA teams, Gilmore never made it to one in the NBA. With a 3rd Team, he likely makes several. ...

Re: Vote players into our alltime top 140, etc.

I keep putting up little tables which I think show consistently that we aren't favoring one part of history over another, either in the candidates offered or the votes made. Unless you really think 8 teams in the '60s held as much talent as 30 teams today. This is the Doug Christie example. Christi...

Re: Vote players into our alltime top 140, etc.

We have one regular participant who is just certain that an average player of the '60s is better than a dominant player in the '00s. Another, who may or may not have placed votes, is fully convinced of the opposite. It's all good. . I just like to compare great players to great players, the Bo Dere...

Re: Vote players into our alltime top 140, etc.

Too many choices that are weeks ahead of where they should be. It might not make sense to do write-ins if there aren't any more voters, but there isn't a guy on that list I'd take over Dave Bing who I'd take over most of the last guys who made the list already. I still think Gus and Pete belong alre...

Re: Vote players into our alltime top 125, etc.

Elvin Hayes was guarded by centers and forwards depending on the matchups. Tough forwards like Maurice Lucas (I take over all those guys mentioned earlier) would guard him, but would switch with Walton (when he was around) if he was in foul trouble. Bob Love would try to guard him with quickness (si...

Re: Vote players into our alltime top 125, etc.

Also, I need to mention: there was an adjustment made for when a player played. Basically, the earlier his career took place, the more his rating was scaled down. Players in the 50s didn't have to play against blacks, in the 60s they didn't have to play against Southern blacks, and not until the 20...
