Free Python script for everyone :)
Hi everybody, I thought this might be interesting for some of you. It's a little script (400 lines) that makes nice little plots and comes in handy once you want to look at relations between different variables. https://github.com/SportsTribution/SportsTribution-Scatter.git A bit of details can be f...

Re: Idea for testing the "Live and die by the Three" hypothe
Sure, especially offensive rebounds would be another good factor, as you could expect 'crashing the glass' to be of high variance.
Once the Variance/Noise part is figured out the rest becomes pretty much gravy

Idea for testing the "Live and die by the Three" hypothesis
Hi everybody, I have a relatively simple idea how the "Live and die by the Three" saying could be tested - at least for a person that is used to parsing stuff from Basketball-Reference.com In my opinion, the basic mathematical idea behind "Live and die by the Three" is: 'teams th...

Re: The effect of playing X consecutive/total minutes
Hi, I don't know how complicated it would be, but couldn't you compare each player against himself and then take the mean and standard deviation of all players as the information? (e.g. does LeBron have a better rating if he gets subbed after 6-8 or after 10+ minutes. Or the same for a benchwarmer a...

Re: Bridging the gap - PM, SportsVU, advanced stats
I threw the kitchen sink - http://sportstribution.blogspot.com/2014/05/bridging-gap-part-iii-throwing-kitchen.html The outcome is in my opinion not super interesting. But for me it was more about trying out some techniques and playing with the data. Especially the separation of data into fitting and...

Re: Bridging the gap - PM, SportsVU, advanced stats
Well, I'll try to do it for time to time. especially for the non-trivial stuff. Cause I also find it a bit annoying, if I simply have to trust somebodies analysis, so I should do better...

Re: Bridging the gap - PM, SportsVU, advanced stats
I added the charts to the blog posts. I probably won't do it in general, as I don't always polish them enough (wild c&p parties...) If you are interested, I wrote a program for the scatter text plots: Mac version - should work https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5782415/SportsTribution_Mac.zip W...

Bridging the gap - PM, SportsVU, advanced stats
Hi guys, I'm new in this 'club' and just started to dive into all your topics :) Long story short, I merged data from different sources (RAPM, basketball-reference and the SportsVU tracking data at nba.com) and am beginning to play around with it: http://sportstribution.blogspot.ch/2014/05/plus-minu...
