Game Detail Stats

Post by DQuinn1575 »

I am trying to look at game by game detail stats and have found what I think might be a problem.

The game by game doesn't always equal the season total.

My example is Vlade Divac blocked shots 1992-1993 - both NBA.com and Basketball-Reference have him with 140 blocks for the season.
Both of these sites' game by game detail add up to 136 blocks.

Am I missing something?
Is this a known problem?

You could forward your findings to b-r.com . On occasion, they investigate such discrepancies and make a correction. Here's a recent example:

They spent some effort to correct a player's totals by 1 point; so a 4-block discrepancy would be relatively large.

Play-by-play is not error free.

I've finished up, and there are a fair amount of times where the game logs <> season totals.
The last 10 years or so are clean, it is 1986-2003.

I'll see what type of response I get from B-Ref
