DeMarcus Cousins

Post by Mike G »

Last year, DMC became the first player to have Usg% > 30 and TRb% > 20, in a season of more than a few minutes.
This year, his Usg is still ~33%, while his Reb% is up to 23.3

Only 8 others have had a Reb% > 20 and Usg% > 25

They total 16 player-seasons among them.

Of these, only Garnett in '04 and '05 had a better PER, Ast% or BPM.
Only KG, Moses'83, and Dwight in '09 and '11 had higher ws/48
None had a higher Stl% than DMC'14. This year his Blk% is only topped by Dwight, Shaq'93, and KG'04

He plays just 32 mpg but averages 23.5 pts and 12.6 reb. These averages have been met or exceeded 77 times for a season, but never in less than 35 mpg. Median is 40.8

A list similar to the one above is of players who avg (since 1978?) >32 pts and >17reb per 100 possessions.

Of these 14 player-seasons, DMC has the highest Reb/100.

Per75 possessions:

Shaq '01 28.6 13.1 3.6 .4 2.9 2.7 3.1
Cousins'15 28.4 15.3 2.9 1.4 1.9 4.4 5.7
Moses '82 27.5 12.9 1.5 .8 1.4 3.2 2.3

Cousins is a beast. He was BY FAR the best NBA projection (my work, not draft analysts) from his college season - & possibly the best outside of Anthony Davis, Tim Duncan, Irving, Beasley, Love, & maybe Durant the last 17 years. I'll know for sure when I someday (within a couple months?) actually finish the college ratings for every college player since 1997 - so I don't feel like I missed someone.

what's amazing is that he plays even 32 min/g. he's committing fouls at the high rate of 14.6 PF/100min - the last player to play as much as he has in a season committing fouls at the same high or worse rate was don meineke back in 1952-53, for the fort wayne pistons...

Hmm, last year through Dec 6, he was averaging 14.5 PF/100 min, wound up at 11.7 for the year.
In 25 games when he got 36+ minutes, the Kings won 9, or 36%. In fewer minutes, they won 41% -- FWIW.
