EZPM? Tweaks?

Post by Crow »

Is EZPM still kept current? Are there any tweaks that have been made in last year to two or under consideration? I thought it might take a lead over older box score metrics when first designed. My memory is that its actual performance wasn't as good as I expected. Step by step it seemed pretty good. Is there any more detail from play by play that could make it stronger and compete with PT-PM or Dredge? What are the big differences in stat weights with BPM, DRE, etc.? Degree of dynamics, treatment of versatility? Anybody else want to look at its formulation, for first time or re-visit? I might later depending on signs of interest.

I haven't worked on it in at least a few years, and have not calculated probably for a couple seasons. I think there are plenty of better metrics out there now, and the marginal value of bringing back any form of ezPM is probably pretty minimal.

Thanks for remembering though! :D

p.s. If I ever did go back to it, I would definitely incorporate more "state" based values, like figuring out value of scoring after a steal vs rebound vs dead ball.

I always thought it had a ton of potential as well! State-based statistics are very intriguing.

Cool, thanks. I'll take a look and compare with other metrics... and my imperfect subjective evaluations... later.
