From the previous tables:
Klay Thompson is having his best series of this postseason, even having missed a game.
Draymond, Cook, Bell, Looney, and McKinnie are all having their worst series. Most of those (and Cousins) are arguably doing nothing or worse. Yes, that's harsh; but bad is bad. Not a good trade-off.

For Toronto, Lowry and Powell are struggling; and everyone else is at or near the best they've been in these playoffs.
Gasol's effectiveness has been inversely proportional to his minutes. Their 4 'bigs' total 128 effective mpg, taking pressure off the backcourt.

Dubs getting virtually nothing from bench. I'll again say they probably should be criticized for doing too little about that. And for more than just big men.

Tough news for Durant. Really affects a lot of things. Hope and assume he'll eventually come back strong. What he give in game 5 was enough to help win that game and maybe save the series.

Athletes are fragile. Basketball players are at risk but the pay compensates for the risk.

They should have had more than 5 recent all-NBA and all-stars on their team? Or they should have only injury-proof all-NBA players?
If they weren't the most stacked team in NBA history coming in, they certainly were the most over-talented in the league, yet again. Iggy and Livingston off the bench, plus Looney, McKinnie, Bell, Cook, Jerebko ... was the envy of the league until guys started getting hurt.
These same guys were great in previous round(s).

Using the Cousins money on a decent wing would've likely been the better option there. Outside of that though I don't see too many different moves the Warriors could've made.

This is a crude boxscore approach

http://www.hoopsstats.com/basketball/fa ... iffeff/1-1

but the Warrior's bench ranked 12th on efficiency differential (rs + playoffs) and is the second lowest on points scored.

Close game.

But for series (at least before tonight) Raptors were far more likely to be successful in top lineups than the Warriors and the Warriors used way more dink lineups.

Yeah, I generally didn't feel great about Kerr's coaching in this one at all. Bit bummed no game 7, but a good game to close it out.

Before tonight, the Raptors were ahead on all four factors and only one was close. Tonight's game won't change any of these (I don't think).

So which teams interviewed Nick Nurse for head coach before the Raptors did?

I am assuming the the Rockets never did, though they had employed him in a lower position in the past. Along with almost everyone else. He probably interviewed for the Pistons job. Looks like the Magic passed.

Dwane Casey: "When we hired (Nurse) in Toronto, he had never had an NBA interview"

Three straight first time in the finals coaches win the NBA finals.

BPM adjusts to the level of competition, and the other stats do not. Warriors therefore look like a below avg team -- and they were below avg for the series -- except in BPM which shows them at +1.3, equivalent to a 44-38 RS team.
Raptors played like a 51-31 team.

Depending on how much you like what ifs, it would be possible to adjust the metric team sums for injury absences, at least for first order effects, to guess how much difference that would have made.

Separate comment

By BPM over 3 the Raptors big 5 performers (with Siakam not performing at that level) beat the the Warriors big 3 (with Durant as an extra only in a cameo).

5 of the 7 most used Warriors lineups were negative for this series. 2 moderately bad, 3 awful to horrendous.

76 lineups used in 6 games. Only 26% cumulatively positive.

Not a single lineup used in every game and only 5 used in 4 or more games. 55 lineups used in just a single game. 84% of lineups would qualify as dink lineups (less than 1 minute per game for series).

The biggest minute lineup was moderately bad. It dd well in the previous rounds and Looney was hurt.

Somehow they made it close. But in a lot of ways it wasn't.

Were lineups managed well? Overall, I'd say no.
