Treemapping Synergy Data

Not sure how many people read my blog, so I'm re-posting this here. I think this is a sort of neat way to visualize Synergy data, because it accounts for shot volume as well as efficiency all on one 2-D plot.

If you look at Spot-up attempts, you see some correlation between volume and efficiency, as opposed to pick-and-roll (ROLL) where the volume-efficiency relationship is essentially random.

Are we supposed to see the teams associated with these colors?
Or is that not what this is supposed to show?

That would be nice, but this gives more general trends, as opposed to a team-by-team summary. To be honest, I'd like to add the team names, but the function I found to do this doesn't have that capability as far as I can tell. I'll try to figure out how to do that.

So, for now, I would consider this an overall look. How does one play type generally compare to another? Within play-types are there relationships between volume & efficiency? Those are the two that jump out at me. For example, looking at ROLL, it's interesting how there is apparently no relationship whatsoever between volume and efficiency. But there definitely is for SPOT.

This is my first attempt. I plan to dive deeper into the team/player level at some point.

Nice. Where do you get the data on play type?
