Performance Home and Away

Has anyone determined whether some teams are either better or worse at home/on the road than average for a sustainable reason? I realize that some cities (like Denver and Utah) may be tough to play in because of altitude and other issues. It the less explainable ones I am interested in.
For example, the Trailblazers/Lakers are playing excellent basketball at home, but not very well on the road. I can calculate their SRS for the season, at home, and on the road separately, but I can't be sure if this is just a small sample issue or there is a legitimate sustainable reason that some teams might be better or worse than average at each.
Any thoughts on this?
