Some brief team stat observations

As of last week:

Raptors give up the most free throws and by a fairly large margin. Nobody has a lower foul rate than the Lakers. Spurs were 3rd lowest.

Rockets love to take & make the 3 pt shot, but so do their opponents. It is a major contributor to their weak FG% allowed (tied for 5th worst in league), their biggest defensive factor weakness.

Adelman, Rubio and the rest of the guard cast that David Kahn entrusted to run the offense are producing the third worst team eFG%. (They were 20th last season with a healthier Kevin Love.) The Bulls are 2nd worst. The Bobcats are the worst in the league on both own and opponent team eFG%. That has not happened in 12 years (2000-1 Warriors did it last). They slipped from 28th last season on eFG% allowed to the bottom spot this season.

The Pacers’ eFG% allowed is by far the best in the league and the best in the last 10 years.

I believe the Pistons are the only team above league average on only one of the 8 offensive and defensive Factors. When I checked, no team was above average on all. Nuggets are above average on all but one (the best on this, I think).

The best four teams (MIA, SAS, OKC, LAC) all have one of the best 5 backcourts based on net “NBA efficiency” (used because it was easily available from hoopsstats). 3 of these teams are also in the top 5 frontcourts but the Clippers are 11th.

3 of these teams are also in the top 5 for starters but the Clippers are 12th.
Only 2 of the four have a top 6 bench by this measure (which is per game, not per possessions). Oklahoma is 14th, Miami 18th.

Looking a bit deeper at two key positions, 3 of these teams have a top 5 PG by this measure but the Heat are 26th. In part because Norris Cole is so bad. None of these teams are top 6 of net boxscore efficiency at the center position. San Antonio is best at 9th. Miami 14th, Clips 19th, OKC 29th.

By this quickly chosen set of rankings, the Spurs have the fewest non-top rankings, followed by the Thunder.

By the Four Factors, they all have 4 factors where they are top 2 within this group. The Spurs are the only team in the top 2 on the two biggest factors- own eFG% and eFG% allowed).
