Kevin Love: 3 point shooters and Offensive Rebounders

One thing that has attracted to me to Kevin Love is the fact that he shoots so many 3 pointers and gets offensive rebounds. Obviously if you shoot a lot of 3's you are in the perimeter quite a bit. Due to that, it's difficult to get offensive rebounds because you are out of position.

Here is a list of players who have shot 100 3 pointers in a season while also having a 10% ORB% or better. Only 24 seasons qualify. Only 8 of them qualify if you move threshold to 200 3PA.

Rk Player Season 3PA ORB%
1 Dennis Rodman* 1991-92 101 18.1
2 Charles Barkley* 1986-87 104 16.7
3 Charles Barkley* 1988-89 162 14.5
4 Kevin Love 2009-10 106 14.5
5 Charles Barkley* 1987-88 157 14
6 Kevin Love 2010-11 211 13.7
7 Jared Sullinger 2013-14 138 13.6
8 Ryan Anderson 2011-12 422 13
9 Charles Barkley* 1996-97 205 12.9
10 Ersan Ilyasova 2011-12 112 12.7
11 Charles Barkley* 1990-91 155 11.8
12 Kevin Love 2011-12 282 11.6
13 Troy Murphy 2004-05 148 11
14 Charles Barkley* 1995-96 175 10.9
15 Charles Barkley* 1991-92 137 10.9
16 Ryan Anderson 2010-11 341 10.8
17 Chris Webber 1994-95 145 10.8
18 Donyell Marshall 1996-97 111 10.7
19 Antoine Walker 1996-97 159 10.4
20 Eddie Griffin 2004-05 204 10.3
21 Scott Padgett 2001-02 113 10.3
22 Harold Pressley 1988-89 295 10.1
23 Chris Webber 1996-97 151 10.1
24 Dominique Wilkins* 1996-97 239 10.1

One thing you will notice from the list is that Barkley and Love dominate. Both of them are comparable players to me. Some of the most unique players in history. At the top of the list is Dennis Rodman who somehow shot 101 3PA in a season while pulling in the 12th best offensive rebound% in history. To me, those guys aren't even the outlier on the list. It's Ryan Anderson's 2012 season. He shot 422 3PA (7 per game) while pulling the 8th best ORB% on the list. The average non-Ryan Anderson player on the list put up 164 3PA. Ryan Anderson put 2.6x more than that. He did that while putting up a ridiculous ORB%. Even more unique about Ryan Anderson was that ORB% was barely better than his DRB% (just 1.7% higher). We might look back one day and put Love and Anderson as 2 of the top 5 most unique players in history.

I've looked at this before because Love's combination of rebounding and three-point shooting is intriguing to me:

And defensive rebounding too just for fun:

Prolific offensive rebounders don't always hang around the basket, but are often using the element of surprise. Attacking the rim from anywhere is gonna be more effective than just working down low and battling the bigs, for some.
Barkley was undersized but mobile, as was Rodman.
Several of these guys were/are good passers.

Sir Charles had some seasons ranking among the alltime "greatest" at damaging his eFG% with his 3FGA.
It looks as if the short-arc years, 1995-97, are somewhat over-represented.
