Hey guys,
As hopefully some you know I've been writing a few blogs using the SportVu data to look at players. I figured I would use this thread to post any new articles I wrote and answer any questions you might have.
Here's the link to my most recent post, and all my other posts are on that website.

Excellent posts by Zach Lowe at Grantland on Kyle Korver, so I decided to go along with the spirit of Kyle Korver Day and contribute something of my own.

Assuming Phoenix resigns Bledsoe, they will have a fearsome backcourt trio with him, Thomas, and Dragic...
What does a team do with 3 world-class point guards?
Do their contributions (or their PAA) add up linearly?

After a few games, thought I would update my site. New post up on the most improved scorers so far this season, with cool (or at least I think so) new graphs for visualization purposes.

Good to see. Biggest declines further on in season would be newsworthy.

I don't want to make Cavs fans anymore sad than they already are...

Hey everyone,
I've been busy so I haven't had a chance to post much, but will do a large post or series of posts around the all-star break. I know you've all missed my work so much. Anyways, I was perusing ESPN and had a glance at the new RPM page, and more specifically the WAR estimates by these RPM numbers. Good work as always J.E.
I wondered how they compared to my PAA ratings, and whether mine passed the "smell test". I've listed the top twenty by WAR and PAA below, just to briefly compare. It seems upon quick glance that PAA doesn't penalize as much for being on a team with a bad record - I have James, Lawson, and Gobert ranked significantly higher than WAR, while having Draymond Green, Markieff Morris, and Jimmy Butler ranked lower.
Any other thoughts?

Both have about proportional representation of guards, true bigs and SFs.

I think maybe mine overvalues shooting, with Klay Thompson so high and JJ Redick really high too (just outside top 20).
Also, I include basically no defense for guards, only rim protection... doesn't seem to be a huge issue though.

Ask yourself: Would you take Kyle Korver over Blake Griffin, Marc Gasol, Kevin Durant ... ?

Keep in mind Durant was hurt and played fewer games, hence his lower number here.
This year... both long term RPM and RAPM (which J.E. just published on another thread) say yes, take Korver over Griffin and Gasol. BPM says Korver over Griffin and tied with Gasol.
Korver's been valuable this year! Probably in the 15-20 range in the league!

I don't really have a problem with the Korver rating. Like DSMok1 said he's rated pretty highly by most metrics. Not saying that makes it right, but it doesn't alarm me too much.

Sorry, I thought PAA was the per minute rating. Durant's only played 29% of OKC minutes this year.
Korver is ranked #14 in BPM (just behind M Gasol); #16 in WS/48 (below Gasol, above Griffin and LeBron) -- metrics that do seem to love such a stat profile. He's #54 in PER and 60 in eW/484 (not including last night).
Is he just in the perfect environment for his skills?
BPM says he's the best player in Atl; then Millsap, Teague, Horford.
WS/48 ranks them: Teague, Horford, Korver, Millsap
PER says Teague, Horford, Millsap, Korver
Of their top 11 guys, he's their #5 in pts/36. And this is what he does, mostly.
He's their #8 rebounder and #6 in assists. Near the bottom in steals and blocks.
He has his career lowest FGA/100 rate. At 12.5, only Sefolosha and Brand get (slightly) fewer shots for Atl.
Shooting .741 TS%, he's .033 better than anyone else in history, with >1000 minutes.
Only Tyson Chandler has ever shot >.690 with fewer FGA/100.
