Playoff returns on the original baseball moneyball approach

I never really paid attention to the original moneyball story because I don't follow baseball. But today I made a brief inquiry and I think I found that in 17 seasons as GM Beane has won one playoff series. Is that correct? That is astounding. I imagine this has been hashed out plenty in print. Anyone got a link to the best analysis of that? Did they spend enough to realistically compete in playoffs or was their approach particularly sub-optimal for playoff ball?
Sports skeptic Alex produced a metric blend that best projected player performance a year or two ago. I would love to see that blend presented as a player level database. Has anyone tried to find the best metric blend to predict player and team performance in the playoffs? I'd be very interested in that too.
