Title team starter RAPM: little negative

I looked at the rapm for the starters of last ten title winners. Only 2 teams had 2 negative starters and no more than one was -1 and not more than that. That is a pretty high degree of balanced competency. A couple of contenders this season probably will have more red ink from starters and will most likely fall short in part because of that.

It's because those starters steal credit from the stars. If Mario Chalmers is on an average team, his RAPM is probably below average

They may steal credit from the starters because of colinearity issues but further investigation would be appropriate to assess. Perhaps worth looking at ASPM for alternative performance measurement.

'Steal' or 'play better with'? I'd be willing to believe they are unfairly assessed by RAPM, but I'd also be willing to believe that Filling In the Gaps With Lebron Chalmers is objectively better than Carrying More of The Load Without LeBron Chalmers.

GSW with one modestly negative starter on RAPM (Barnes), CLE with none.
