Hi All,

Vantage Sports is looking for part-time, remote sports writers for our upcoming site.

What Is VantageSports.com?

VantageSports.com is a premium sports media website that will be launched prior to the 2014-2015 NBA Season. We will offer a variety of content (including NBA and NCAA), but our specialty will be both long- and short-form articles that use Vantage proprietary data and statistics as part of the analysis.

Here are some links to media articles that have used our data (you'll need an Insider account for the ESPN articles):

ESPN: http://es.pn/1hmCsiM
B/R: http://bit.ly/OwV7gA
ESPN: http://es.pn/1qAkywi

What Makes Vantage Different?

Platform: Unlike other sports content sites that just publish your work, VantageSports.com will give you access to our proprietary data that only our professional team clients currently have access to. With the ability to use the same information that is available to teams (and better information than is available on any other sports site, including the big names), your writing will only be that much better.

Exposure: With inside access to NBA team clients, you will have exposure and information sources that will make your writing more relevant and give you the kind of experience that other online publishers can't.

Compensation: While we haven't completely worked out the details yet, we believe that quality writers should be compensated for quality work. We expect to begin with a shared-profits approach with writers who achieve better metrics (clicks, viewing time, etc.) receiving a larger cut per month. In addition, we expect to hire writers to full- and part-time salaried positions, and will take a first look at initial Contributors to fill such positions.

Interested?

If VantageSports.com sounds like something you're interested in, please reach out to Mark Jansen at mark@vantagesports.com and include a list of NBA teams that you would be willing to cover on a regular basis. Also, feel free to pass this e-mail along to anyone you know who might be interested.

We aren't requiring any sort of exclusive agreement to publish on our site (except, of course, any articles using our data will need to be published only on our site), and we are expecting to expand into other sports as quickly as possible.

We just signed 3 NBA teams, and have an NBA superstar who has invested in our company. We truly believe that we will revolutionize analytics in the NBA. It is an exciting time for our company, and we hope you can join us.

Congrats on the progress on several levels, best wishes and looking forward to seeing the site.

I surmise that writing for profit seeking sites for free is pretty common and that ad revenue sharing by viewage is fairly common too. I guess it works fairly well for the companies and acceptably at least for a time for many emerging writers. But a lot of folks will still prefer the standard, work / get paid at least an adequate minimum model or work for a share in the emerging business model. If there is expectation of future profit, it would seem more fair to either share the risk / reward with those who help build at least part of the business or if reward is being held by only a few then pay writers like you have to pay other vendors and other employees. Just one way to look at it.

It would help to know what viewer metrics you would have to meet to make $25, 50, 100 or $250 on an article. What is the actual or most common range out there in the market?

As well as compensation, what would the required writing amount be? Weekly? Daily? Bi-weekly? I've never done it before, but maybe for a few bucks on the side it could be a possibility.

Hoopshabit.com (a fan sided site I believe) pays .1 cent per reader. So 5,000 views, make $5. http://hoopshabit.com/write-for-us/
How many hardcore analytic pieces outside the top 5 platforms get 5,000 views? Do any get 50,000 views worth a $50 payout? How many hours are folks willing to work to make $5 or dream of a $50 payday? Is this payrate typical? I couldn't find a straight answer about bleacher reports pay rate. I did find the payrate for a few financial sites listed at between .1 cent per read up to 1 cent a read, though that might be for really high end analysis for high end clients.
