It would be nice (but unexpected and maybe not possible) for Dean to share his presentation at this invitation only event or what he learned from the "football" analysts applicable to the NBA. Or came by here to discuss anything. Might be worth asking though. If he can talk to them, why not here?

Of course almost everyone who has worked for a NBA team has nearly or totally abandoned this forum even when no longer with a team, despite previous loyalty to it and talk of building the community here. There are some sharing events offered by NBA professionals and fairly surface interviews, it is just not here. That full blown ship has sailed but I'll ask one more, different, easier question: would any team or former team insider agree to a one-time "ask me anything" "chat" here, with the provision that you can say pass or be brief, vague or subtle where you feel you must or want to? Who wants to be the first volunteer? Pick a time, announce it and show up. Or send us to twitter, reddit, nylon calculus or wherever. Or don't, as you wish; but you were asked.

It would be interesting to know something concrete about how analytics got used or didn't or well and fully versus not in trades of stars during his tenure with teams and also for proposals not completed. Has anyone heard any of these stories with useful detail? I have never really heard anyone say what stats / metrics actually went into and didn't go into trade talk, what had prominence, what didn't. Are public one metrics as lightly regarded or disregarded as some insider brief asides suggest? If not using that, are they truly loading and weighing tons of granular data without these filters? How is that goink?

Looking at the program for this event, there appear to topics and perhaps approaches with application to the NBA. First year performance at varying ages, impact of dimensions of field of play (is there a good study of the varying impact of the dimensions / rules of "the paint" thru time for NBA / ABA / NCAA / FIBA for offense and defense?), player recruitment (if they give focus to recruitment activity / perspective going beyond just money to role, minutes, status, team culture, city) and varied attack vs. one dimensional play calling / sequencing, etc.

Yes, you and Jerry E. are main exceptions. A few others also speak up occasionally. But the overall volume is quite low. I am not going to rail on it but I mention it in passing because of the thread posting.
