On Twitter it was noted that distance & speed tracking data was not "analytics". Moving beyond comment on that specifically, what analytics could / should be done with that data, ideally, if you had access to the detail?

There is the ability to see offensive & defensive speeds & distances. Even this simple step takes mere data into analytics, imo. Ideally you could also check: by play type, by possession by # and recency of touches, dribbles, passes, player usage of possession / not, by quarter, by elapsed time of stint, by game / month, win / loss, home / road, size of lead / deficit, quality of team opponent, quality of matchup opponent, demographics / physical abilities of matchup opponent, weekday / weekend, recent w-l patterns, with / without particular teammates especially PGs, year to year, coach to coach, by length of shot clock use, with adjustments for offensive rebounding, picks, cuts, 3 pt shot availability, pre and post injury, next plays after specific events like fouls on, fouls against, any kind of free throws, verbal contest of officials, timeouts, techs, dunks for and against, steals & blocks for & against, made & missed shots for & against, turnovers, after specific other players usages and multiple usages, at altitude, with various rest levels, with various previous game minutes recently, by recent travel mileage, amount of sleep, recent practice or not, by contract status, pay level, pre / post trade deadline, by shoe worn, by conference, by quality of coaching opponent, adjusted for opponent average pace, crosstabbed with amount of switches (planned and not), by points scored and given up to matchup or overall opponent, by game level team and personal offensive & defensive efficiency ratings, crosstabbed with matchup and team opponent distance & speed (that game, month, overall), by position, role, with 3 plus starters vs. not, by specific lineup, on touches by location, by offensive & defensive scheme (own & opponent), by game given level of fouls called, after getting knocked down or just falling, after significant side to side movement, after jumps (one-legged, two legged, multiple on same possession), after fast breaks (for, against, multiple within x minutes), crosstabbed with side to side ball reversals, crosstabbed with PG distance & speed, dribbles, passes, usage, by post touches & duration by anyone, by 3s attempted, by degree of shot contest (for, against, that possession or recently), by # of "bumps" received, given, national tv / not, regular season / playoffs / round, and whatever else might cone to mind later after looking at these 5 dozen analytic splits.
