Re: stats.nba.com

As explained in the above link, using the stats.nba.com formula overestimates the number of possessions because it doesn't account for team offensive rebounds. In an individual game, that (as well as the estimate for free throw possessions that any estimator uses) mean the net ratings can get a lit...

stats.nba.com

Does anyone know why ortg/drtg values are different on nba.com than on basketball-reference or nbawowy? Which source would have more accurate data on team and individual level?

Re: Rookies 2015-16

I'm not sure about other rookies, but shouldn't RAPM after about ~25% of season be as good as two years APM? Besides RPM covers almost whole season and Towns is still behind, so he would be even more behind in RAPM, because there is no box score component which gives KAT a lot of value.

Re: Rookies 2015-16

RPM from ESPN

9. Jokic +5.9
42. Porzingis +2.7

20. Jokic +2.8
36. Porzingis +1.9
287. Towns -0.8

multiyear
34. Jokic +2.7
50. Porzingis +2.2
178. Towns -0.2

Re: Rookies 2015-16

Any comments on massive advantage Porzingis (and Jokic) has over Towns in RAPM and RPM?

Re: RAPM request thread

I have a question: is +6 NPI RAPM in year X equal to +6 NPI RAPM in year Y? If not, then why and how we should understand that stat if in one year +6 doesn't mean +6 per 100 possessions?

Thx for that, but I think there's one name too much: Mike Malone :)

Don't have data before that

Thx. Does it include playoffs?

Re: RAPM request thread

My request:
PI (with only one previous season as "prior") and NPI RAPM for each season from 1997 (first year PbP is available) to 2015, no box score component, height or age adjustment, just +/- regression.

Re: RAPM last season for recent acquisitions of some teams

But the point is that xRAPM isn't "right more often than not" - xRAPM overrates ALL bigs on defense just because they are bigs... No, it's nearer to right more often than RAPM, Any proof? (only defense on individual level, not overall results) and it does not overrate all bigs, but does h...

Re: RAPM last season for recent acquisitions of some teams

EDIT: No problem J.E., I'm always bothered by the fixation on 'real' RAPM. That can be true of *any* metric of course, depending on the person using it. There's always the temptation to treat one's 'favorite' or 'go-to' stat as a holy grail summary of player ability. As for the bickering over xRAPM...
