Here we have a non-Finalist heading the list, and it won't be the only time. However, I've done these back to 1978, and LeBron'09 is easily higher than anyone since then.
The magnitude of his domination of the first 2 rounds just hasn't been seen before or since. His .399 WS/48 essentially means he was as good as 4 average players.
This was his avg rate for 580 minutes. No one has a higher WS/48 for more than 32 minutes.
He'd have more than 14 games if 1st and 2nd round opponents (Det, Atl) could have won a game.

Dirk ranks highest of those short of the conference finals; Yao next.

An even earlier out was the superstar of these playoffs. Paul's PER and ws48 were so much better than anyone else's, he cops the top spot in spite of mediocre teammates.
Pierce was Finals mvp, but all games count the same here. You can't win the Finals if you don't get to the Finals, in fact.

Between 2005 and 2011 an average of exactly 1 guy made the top 10 on xyz per season with a TS% below 55% (I selected to look at just top 10 instead of all top 15 listed to simplify it a bit). From 1989 and 2004 (the defensive era?) the average was 2.75. Easier recently to be a top performer on xyz by being a star scorer? Or less guys shining very brightly thru the sum of other contributions because of a shift to a climate less friendly to tough / strong guys who played good defense and rebounded well or fewer guys with high talent for & effort applied to doing that role very very well?

Between 2005 and 2011 an average of about 2.3 guys made 3.0 or over on xyz per season. From 1989 and 2004 it was about 2.05. A bit easier recently to be a 3+ xyz guy in the current climate for whatever set of reasons (rule changes, greater use of the 3 pt shot, changes in age profile, etc.) or more top level talent than before?

Between 2005 and 2011 an average of about 2.85 guys of the top 5 guys on xyz were 20% or over on assist% per season. From 1989 and 2004 it was 2.75.
