Thursday APBeerMetrics and Sunday Basketball

Post by mikez »

So, I'm pleased to announce that the two vaguely-Sloan-related events that I quasi-organize will be back this year. I say "quasi-organize" since all I've really done each year is check to see that the space is available and then make a posting here. And even most of that seems to be happening on its own this year, which is a dream for any quasi-organizer. :)

Anyways, I hope to see you all at this year's APBeerMetrics meeting, to be held at its usual spot upstairs at The Fours Boston on Thursday night. I expect I'll get there around 9:30 but don't let that stop you from getting there earlier or later. Like last year, there is a Bruins game that night, so it may be a little busy at the bar between 10 and 11 but we have that big long table in the back room reserved & I expect the place to be basically ours after 11ish. It's been great to see/meet so many people from this board in a less chaotic environment than the conference! I hope everyone who's in town can make it.

Also, on Sunday, the usual geeks pickup basketball game is happening at Basketball City. They open at 10, and it's $10 to play there through 4PM. I probably won't be able to stay much past 11, since we have a game vs the Knicks across the street at 1, but that's probably for the best, since despite working in a basketball practice facility I haven't taken a shot since September & thus might have sufficiently embarrassed myself by 11 anyways.

See you all next week!

I'm going to try to swing by for a little while early on Thursday night, and I'll probably make it to the Sunday pickup game, too.

Let me offer a little pre-game scouting: Mike Z may say he's rusty, but all I know is that last year he was drilling numerous 3-pointers against some pretty decent competition. Plus, we were counting regular baskets as 1 point and 3-pointers as 2, so you can imagine what his effective FG percentage was!

As for me, I'm reminded of an article I read a while ago about Rick Majerus. He said that when he actually gets out on the court himself and plays pickup ball, all he does is pass, pick, and box out. That's probably what a realistic assessment of my skills calls for.

I will be at Sunday hoops for sure, and I will do my best to make it on Thursday.

I will be there as well, hope to get there early as well. I hope to be there by 8PM but I'll probably be late.

See you then,
