Thanks!!!
It's been an amazing experience and I hope the "stats coach" concept takes hold around the league so my stats friends get to do it too!
Maybe, um, Mike the Celtics might give it a try next season?

Auto-racing with its headset link of crew to driver passing along all sorts of performance related information while the contest is going on may be a good example of high octane stats coaching.

Just want to add my voice to the well-deserved chorus of praise. Also a public word of thanks: if you hadn't shared with me your fledgling lineup databases several years ago, I never would have begun doing adjusted plus-minus modeling at the NBA level . . . and certainly wouldn't have my current consulting gig with Phoenix.
Anyway, it's great to see you reaching such a high level of professional success, and raising the aspirational bar for stat geeks everywhere!

It is nice to see advanced stats guys at practice rather than appearing as panelists at the events

I and many other people are getting curious and would like to learn how you build your relationship with players as a numbers guy and their approach.

Roland - if you're needing someone to fetch the coffee &/or recrunch numbers for ya this offseason - I'm 30 minutes away in Arlington.
Have fun at the parade in the morning - don't forget the sunscreen..... maybe I'll see ya - but you'll probably look really tiny from my vantage point.

Re: 'Grats to Roland & the Mavericks
I've been out of town (missed much of the Finals but saw some in my hotel room), so belated congratulations to the Mavs and especially RolandB. Nice article indeed ... I hadn't realized that Grgurich was assistant coaching the Mavs, along with Casey and Stotts. That's basically the Sonics' assistant coaching staff from the George Karl era (minus Bob Kloppenburg who I think is retired now).Bobbofitos wrote:http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_ ... ht-buttons
Nice article about the use of analytics for the mavs/congratulatory towards Roland Beech
Re: 'Grats to Roland & the Mavericks
Congrats to Roland and the Mavs. I used to email him questions back in the day and he always took the time to respond. I didn't even know he worked for the Mavs until recently, I thought he only did 82games.com. Knowing how much he had going on and that he still responded meant a lot. The stats community is a tight knit one. Thanks Roland. All the best!
