What 1-3 things do you think a majority of good teams still do not do well and how much help can analytics give? Is it mainly a matter of applying good analytics or are these shortcomings essentially tradeoffs experienced in maximizing other things and still getting them to their overall realisitc performance frontier?

The biggest thing I see is probably not minimizing mid-range shots to the optimal amount for optimal team performance (at least on offense and ideally overall).

Not sure if inadequate effort and productivity on offensive glass should be listed but the last 8 seasons have been the lightest on team ORs collected in league history. A trend, right, wrong on balance or not important enough to worry about? By OR% the league is staying around the same low point the last 6 seasons and last season was only 3rd worst.

Average team regular season FTAs are also at all-time low (for 2nd straight season). How much is becuase of change of team offensive strategy, defensive strategy or rules / officiating?

Average team offensive rating last season was only 23rd best out of 40 years of calculations. So to flip it around defensive rating is just slightly better than median for the time period.
