I hope to look at the top contenders' factor level change for this season compared to last and which champ (or final four team) from the last 7 years they most resemble at factor level at some point. I don't have time to do it right now. Has anyone already looked into this or want to?
This is a tangent off this topic but I noticed that the Pacers are only at 55% win rate against teams with a good point for ranking at 82games. Heat are at 69% win rate against teams a good points against ranking. Blazers win 85% against good defensive teams, only 56% against good offensive teams. Spurs are only in the high 50s against good offensive or defensive teams. On this cut of data the Thunder look best, winning 67% of the time against good offenses and 83% against good defenses.
Top contenders- change from last yr and similarity to champs
Re: Top contenders- change from last yr and similarity to ch
Looking at how some stats changed season to season for 8 contending teams:
All increased pace except Houston, whose pace went down about half a point.
Heat declined on both offensive and defensive side of the court, slightly more on defense.
Blazers and Pacers were only contenders to improve on both sides of court.
Blazers with most net improvement (+7), followed by Warriors (-4).
Heat is the biggest slippage (near –3), flowed by Thunder (-1).
Blazers and Pacers got older (by about 1. 5 years) while Clippers got younger (less than –1 yr.) as did Thunder just slightly.
Biggest own eFG% improvement- Pacers, then Heat and Warriors. Clippers and Thunder slightly negative.
Houston and Clips with biggest improvement in FT/FGA rate. Thunder, Spurs and Warriors slipped.
Heat with the biggest slippage in opp. eFG%, Rockets with biggest improvement.
