Average distance of shot?

Post by Dr Positivity »

Hi, I'm wondering if there's any place that tabulates the average distance of a players shots. Or at the least, adds together the at rim + 3-9 feet + 10-16 + 16-23 + 3pt corner + 3pt break distributions into a "one number to rule them all" shot distance/distribution

Seems like this could be a nice shorthand way to quantify spacing (if imperfect), plus would have potential if added to other stats.

What would distinguish between player (A), who shoots lots of 3's and also attacks the basket; and player (B), who shoots a lot of midrange shots? Their 'average' shot distance might both be 14', yet (A) may never actually shoot a 14' shot.

Good point, though when that player is driving to the basket he has the ball, so therefore this means he's not 'spacing' in the same way an off ball player is?

There could also just be a separate chart only counting shots outside the restricted area
