APBeerMetrics & Sunday Basketball

Post by mikez »

I'm happy to announce once again that the usual events will be happening here in Boston around Sloan-time. As usual I'm only loosely "organizing" these things; the Fours (#1 sports bar in the country according to SI!) will have space for us in the usual upstairs room Thursday night and basketball city is open on Sunday.

I won't be getting to the Fours til about 9:30 Thursday but they're open before then so feel free to show up anytime. I recommend the Buffalo Chicken Nachos. There's a Justin Timberlake concert that night so the rest of the bar could get crowded for a short while when the concert ends, but we should have the dining-room area upstairs mostly to ourselves for most of the night.

On Sunday open gym goes from 10-4 so there should be plenty of time to play. I expect a lot of journalists in addition to geeks. All are welcome (not like I could stop anyone even if I wanted to, which I don't).

It's been amazing to watch this community grow so much from the 10-ish people we had at the Fours the first year! So please do stop by if you're in town.

See you in 2 weeks!

Thanks for the info. It sounds like it should be a great time. Unfortunately my flight leaves Sunday morning so I will have to miss out on the tough competition on the court.

I too am leaving Sunday morning, but I'll be sure to hit up the Fours on Thursday night to hangout.

I think quite a few people go, not just people from this board.

P.S. You know MikeZ is Mike Zarren, Assistant GM of the Celtics, right?

Having a beer at home tonight. Best to everybody. And here's a source of some sorrows for drowning: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/10520 ... -analytics. Yeesh... it burns.

Since 2006-7 5 of the 7 title winners have used the services of someone who has posted here and would be considered an analytics guy. The other 2 winners were the Lakers and they had or have a guy name Einstein I heard. Not sure how advanced his stuff is. Found a few notes about him years ago thru some internet digging, And I heard they had Rudy T.'s son doing something too.

Any thoughts about what was seen and heard at the conference this year?

Mike Z worked on his outside shooting, the Celtics Hub guys repped homecourt pretty well, and the tall guys were the best players there.
