New Analytics and Advanced Stats Site- nbaminer.com

Post by tonikukoc »

Hi,

After long data scrapping and preparing period, we have just launched a brand new analytics and advanced stats website: http://www.nbaminer.com

Historical Evolution of Game, Player and Team Analyses, Tons of Advanced Player and Team Stats pages and more.

Thanks

Looks really interesting, will definitely poke around during the season. Out of curiosity, where are you getting your stats?

This is a good resource for a lot of beyond-the-box score stats like And-1's and bad pass ratios, but I have a few things to point out.

Your export tool isn't working for Four Point Plays & And-1's and Nasty Stats.

I would also suggest putting up warnings about how some stats weren't completely tracked for a season like goaltending in the 90's, I believe.

Finally, can you provide technical free throws (including flagrant fouls) and three-point free throws (taking three free throws at a time)? You state you calculate possessions from play-by-play logs, which is cool, so perhaps you could calculate "real" TS% as well because no one else does that (besides NBAWOWY which only goes back two seasons.) I'd also like to see charges provided. The earliest I see charges is 2006 in b-ref's play-by-play data, however.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing.

Just wondering, is it possible to view totals rather than per game numbers? If not, are you consider implementing such a feature?

sure it is possible, we preferred to show per game numbers instead of totals, because of page width problems. but we can add show total in the future, got it to our to-do list.

also AcrossTheCourt's wishes are in our list.

Very cool, thanks. Was just looking for defensive 3 seconds/dunk totals since they're seemingly not available anywhere else (particularly from 96-97 through 99-00, and perhaps 00-01). The per game numbers are terrific, just wanted to be more precise.

Thanks again for your hard work!

export bug is fixed now. Do you want us to show FTs (technicals and three-point free throws) as separately or just for using them to calculate real TS%? (got answer from twitter)

Charges are a bit complicated. There are two different offensive foul types, offensive charges and fouls (illegal screens etc.). NBA has started to log them differently with 2010-11 season. Before that date, there was no distinctive indication about foul type, but fortunately we have fouled player information as from 2005-2006 season. I'm planning to show them in two different columns. Hang on :)

Hm, when I click "Print all pages" here on the shot zones page:

Just get a blanks screen. Known bug?

I'm not sure how NBAminer is getting their stats, something I see wrong is I was looking for stats related to and-1's.

http://www.nbaminer.com/four-point-plays-and-one/
http://nyloncalculus.com/stats/player-s ... reakdowns/

Stat to look for on nylon would be the 1/1, comparing with adding 4 point play + and 1 stats up. Sometimes it matches up exactly, sometimes it does not. Gut says to trust nyloncalc though...
