My post was above yours, but it doesn't make sense if you directed at me either. Although I have a feeling you directed at me because I called your name in a couple of previous debates and I have been critical of your professional, payed work called RPM or xRAPM before, I won't reply it with the appropriate tone until I become sure about your intentions.

Fundamentally, I think you have things backwards - it makes more sense to start with a question or problem, and then work the numbers guided by that. If you keep the primal motivation in mind then you can update your metrics as methodology and data become more sophisticated, and it puts you into a good position to understand and evaluate any criticism of the metric proper. Similarly, without understanding what the goal is others may struggle to provide useful input.

Counting stats like 'points made above average' that don't normalize for usage in some way are flawed for anything other than entertainment purposes like constructing a narrative or reviewing a player's career.

You make errors at the very basic level, and chances are 100% that you make a lot of errors calculating xRAPM without even knowing it. Since you think so highly of yourself although you're a typical "stat" guy from realgm forums albeit with some knowledge about python, you are definetely delusional.

You just made another "mistake" again by lying and calling it was a "typo". It was not.

He won many scoring titles (which felt like a bigger thing back then), but never because of his FG%/TS% but because he took lots of shots and played looots of minutes (up to 43.7 per game). Per 36, his highest PPG is 26.7. No other per 36 stats really stand out, except for STLs.

1. In the context of this paragraph, you looked at the years he won his 4 scoring titles and you actually saw his 26.7 pp/36m of the 2001 season and thought that was it. You couldn't even think about the fact that it could be one of the seasons he did not win the title.

2. If his highest PP/36 happened in an another season where he won the scoring title and/or if his highest pp/36 in a season where he won the scoring title was NOT actually 26.7, it could have been a typo. You just made an another mistake.

3. If you shared your step-by-step process of calculating RPM or xRAPM I would bet everything I got that you made a lot of minor errors there.

4. Why don't you participate in prediction contests? You know you will end with a mediocre result there and xRAPM or RPM will lose it's magic among a few elites. So, you will be criticized more often. Even PER surpasses xRAPM with 100% roster turnover for god's sake


As for my attitude, I have never ever insulted any personality in this board except mystic perhaps because he insulted me first. I joke time to time implicitly (especially when I discuss things with Mike G or DSMok1 or Crow), but they are just jokes. Nothing more. This forum is so serious and it needs just a bit candy.

As for your attitude, I can say after mystic you are by far the most rude member of this forum. People lump your attitude because of the things you share (I'm still thankful for them), but even I recall a few incidents where some member couldn't take it anymore and called you rude. There are more statistical evidence that there's a problem with YOUR attitude than mine.

The worst, you don't even know there's a problem with YOUR attitude and continue insulting others and then proclaim you insulted me because of my attitude.
