Consecutive streaks, obscure and rarely mentioned, HELP !!

Post by BasketDork »

Some consecutive streaks in the NBA are well documented, but others are more obscure or painstaking to track down, even bb-ref.com's Player streak finder works in 5 year chunks and warns this can cause some things to get lost in between, to get an idea, here's what I'm referring to:

COMMON:
Consec. Gms Played- 1192 - A.C. Green
Consec seasons leading league in PPG, rebounds,
FG %, Minutes, FTA, etc.....
Consec. FGM- 35 - Wilt Chamberlain
Consec. FTM- 97- Michael Williams
Conec. 3PtFGM- 13- Brent Price, Terry Mills

What I'm looking for is consecutive games with at least 1+, 5+, 10+ of each box score statistic.
I know bbref.com gives me "Most Total Games" including those results like "Wilt Chamberlain appeared in 271 such games where he scored 40 or more points.
I'm looking for, if any statheads can either answer me or point me to the answer, so far I have:

Most consecutive gm w/ a 3PM: 89-Dana Barros
Most consecutive gm w/ a Steal: 108-Chris Paul

Most consecutive gm w/ at least 1: Point, FGM, FGA, FTM, FTA, 3PA, ORB, DRB, TRB, AST, TOV, PF, DQ, Tech Fouls

Hopefully, if pointed in the right direction, I can proceed with Most consecutive games w/ 2+, 3+, 5+, 7+, 10+, etc....

I'd also like to do this for the playoffs, as well.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT ?

Well, let's see.
Karl Malone totaled 1134 games with 20 points; but they weren't consecutive.
His biggest streak is 45 consecutive games, 1989, as seen here:
http://bkref.com/tiny/ANU6N

It also isn't possible that Wilt scored 50 in more than a few games consecutively. He averaged 50.4 in 78 games one year, 44 the year after.

The Player Streak Finder is hard to use comprehensively. You can look up individual players' streaks, or you can scan the league for 6-year intervals. But they don't go back to the beginning of time.

If you go ahead with full league scans, maybe you'll find the records vary depending on whether you consider playoff games to either potentially continue or break a streak.
At bk-ref, you can toggle to RS, or PO, or Either. At the Either setting, the Mailman had 48 consec. 20-pt games.

Did Wilt really make 35 straight shots?

Silly mistake with the consecutive rather than total 50, and 20 point games. You're right. I was just in a hurry to get my thought out, haha..Apparently, yes, Wilt did hit 35 FGA in a row, which sounds a lot more plausible than say, Iverson, achieving the feat . I LOVE play index and have used it for a ton of queries over the past few years, but the streak finder does get tricky if you want to avoid trudging through individual game logs. Its just that when you get down to the meat and potatoes of things, you wanna know, who at least grabbed one board in a game the longest? Russell? Wilt? Moses? Barkley? Hakeem? Rodman? Ben Wallace? Duncan? There isn't a clear cut place to locate ALL of it chronologically, without stoppages, ya know?
