Calculating PER - What is lg_aPER?

Post by njworange »

I'm trying to calculate PER given a Korean League player's stats and am not coming up with common value. I'm using the equation at BR.com (http://www.basketball-reference.com/about/per.html)

Calculation of 'factor', 'VOP' and 'DRB%' seem straightforward. However, determining the 'lg_aPER' isn't straightfoward either.

"calculate league average aPER (lg_aPER) using player minutes played as the weights"?
What is that?

My friend said lg_aPER means aPER with league stats. But, in this case with 2013-14 Kevin Durant and Russel Westbrook, I wasn't coming up the same value as shown at BR.com

For example, here is a player's stats.

MP 1514
FG 469
FGA 771
3P 61
FT 200
FTA 286
ORB 155
TRB 502
AST 138
STL 110
BLK 55
TOV 116
PF 150
tmAST 654
tmFG 1617
lgPF 9545
lgFTA 9275
lgAST 5959
lgFG 15733
lgFGA 30895
lgORB 5005
lgTRB 14806
lgTOV 14806
lgPTS 41286

lgPace 76.96
tmPace 78.40

DRB% 0.6619
VOP 1.15356
factor 0.626107804
pace_adjustment 0.98158

his eleven value+3P is 1149.58
uPER is (1/1514)*1149.58 = 0.759
aPER is 0.98158 * 0.759 = 0.745

But I don't know how to calculate lg_aPER. I don't know how to upload my excel spreadsheet, so I just wrote down some values.

Anybody know this lg_aPER?

Would it be SUM ( aPER for every player * specific player minutes) / total league minutes?
