Basketball Operations Analyst - Minnesota Timberwolves (Minneapolis, MN)

Job Title: Basketball Operations Analyst

Department: Basketball Operations

Reports to: General Manager

Position Type: Full-Time/Regular/Exempt

Position Summary: The position will focus on projects including but not limited to: player performance evaluation, game strategy, draft research, salary cap analysis and athletic performance monitoring. Analysts will have the opportunity to build solutions for the Basketball Operations Department, work with exciting new data including SportVU/Second Spectrum motion tracking, and perform modeling to assist with player personnel decisions. Analysts will be required to produce daily, weekly and longer-ranging reporting tools, complete ad-hoc analyses and contribute to larger, department-wide initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other:

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook) required.
Ability to work with both Mac and PC platforms.
Strong ability to work with statistical or financial modeling.
Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
Able to work under pressure and handle work-related stress.
Able to work independently and productively with minimum supervision.
Experience: Previous database management experience required, (SQL experience preferred). Experience working with a variety of programming languages (Python, Ruby, Perl, C#/C++, and or JavaScript) strongly preferred.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Math, Engineering, Physics, Economics or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Supervisory Responsibility, if any: This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

Work Environment

Work is both sedentary and active in nature. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available. This job also operates in a sports arena, which includes bleachers/steps.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information with others both in person and over the telephone. The employee frequently is required to remain in a stationary position, as well as operate computers and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, printer and telephone. Staff will frequently ascend and descend bleachers/steps and traverse around the building both on event days and non-event days. Staff may occasionally move items weighing up to 30 pounds.

Travel

This position may require some travel.
