Team Management: How Solid?
Team Management: How Solid?
What % of team managements would you consider "solid" or better based on recent performance and what you can glean about their operations from the reporting?

Re: Team Management: How Solid?
This is how I would rank each franchise's current management:
Great: Spurs, Warriors, Cavs, Heat, Jazz, Rockets (6)
Good: Raptors, Celtics, Hornets, 76ers, Grizzlies, Trail Blazers, Nuggets (7)
Average: Bucks, Pacers, Nets, Mavs, Thunder (5)
Bad: Clippers, Wizards, Pistons, Timberwolves, Hawks (5)
Trash Fire: Bulls, Knicks, Magic, Lakers, Suns, Pelicans, Kings (7)
I'd consider being Average or better doing a solid job, so 18/30 = 60%
Most of the bad teams seem to struggle to control narrative in the media and have a lot of in-fighting.

I am not far off your rankings.
As for differences, looking at just last couple years, I might have the Heat, Jazz, Rockets as "Good".
76ers, Nets and Mavs as bad.
Clippers, Wizards, Hawks at least average, maybe higher.

About half, voted 60% but maybe a hair lower. Using the above post as a template:
I'd say some of the "average" group is above average by a hair and some below by a hair. Main things I differed in is I'm way higher on the Suns and a bit lower on the Mavs/Nets/Rockets.

I guess you can be a solid or better tanking team but imo the Suns aren't it. 76ers, you can view as great set -up or terrible execution of the re-start to date.
Re: Team Management: How Solid?
The Suns haven't been poorly managed IMO. They've got a fair bit of young talent and a few good looking draft assets upcoming. The Sixers were great until the Hinkie firing.
Re: Team Management: How Solid?
Suns:
Inexperienced coach who isn't getting results. Bottom ten on offensive & defensive efficiency in 2015-16 and bottom ten on 4 Factors. This season, same. Change but not net progress. Great tanking.
Guard chaos. Booker just doing his thing and not playing an all-around game. The major media metrics have him at below average to bad impact.
Reach young bigs who are far from ready playing a lot. Great tanking. Retaining Chandler because...?

What about the Cavs organization makes you think they are well run team? Everything about them screams incompetence with a lucky lottery record, a willingness to spend money, and a generational talent born in their backyard. This is how I would rank each franchise's current management:

David Griffin has pulled off some miracles. Go bad through and look at this trade record. He has been a master at flipping players/picks and gaining trade exceptions.Rd11490 wrote:What about the Cavs organization makes you think they are well run team? Re: Team Management: How Solid?
Griffin is a great GM and it's still insane to me that the Cavs haven't given him a contract extension. If the Clippers had been as good at acquiring talent while having no cap space, they would have made it past the 2nd round by now.
Re: Team Management: How Solid?
The Suns have a young team, you're essentially grading a young team's front office poorly because the player aren't good yet. I don't think they're great, but they're certainly not bad.

Re: Team Management: How Solid?
To be fair, I had them as average. I think the front office has been alright, signed some meh contracts and drafted some meh player. Haven't pooped the bet, haven't done anything great. Just meh.
Re: Team Management: How Solid?
I'm definitely not giving enough credit to Griffin; he has done very well with what he was given. That being said, as an organization I think the Cavs are terrible (as evidenced by tonights events). It seems like there is constant reporting on the disfunction that surrounds them and their owner meddles too much to allow for any real stability. Had a few ping pong balls bounced the wrong way between 2010-2014, I truly believe that we would be discussing this franchise in the same tier as the Knicks and Kings.

Their owner is definitely one of the 3 worst in the league, Dan Gilbert is absolutely terrible.

Thats fair, just don't see them as straight "bad".jgoldstein34 wrote:To be fair, I had them as average. I think the front office has been alright, signed some meh contracts and drafted some meh player. Haven't pooped the bet, haven't done anything great. Just meh.
