Re: Trivia
Kings have lost their past two game to teams that were on 8- and 11-game losing streaks. At home.
Unprecedented?
Unprecedented?
Re: Trivia
These would be slightly above-avg passers and rebounders, slightly below-avg scorers. Neither should be too rare alone.
Are they teammates?
Player A has exactly Al Horford's line (before last night); but nobody on the Sixers looks like B
Hey, one year there were 3 Stricklands in the league, and all were traded mid-season.Doesn't get any more trivial than: all three Porters in the NBA (Kevin, Otto & Michael) are Jrs
Re: Trivia
Not teammates. Sorry if that was misleading
Re: Trivia
Well, Gary Payton II has played just 3 games to approach his 4-year avg of ~100 minutes per season. If he plays more, he's unlikely to keep those averages.
But what about these numbers strikes you as "One of the unlikeliest statistical pairings ever"?
Neither player has anything very unusual in their per game stats.
Is it unusual to get 30+ mpg with such middling rates?

Re: Trivia
Different size, different position, different role, different playing style, different skills. Prior to seeing these stats if I showed you a list of players in the Assn w/ approx same minutes per game as Horford, where would you likely have placed Payton II re similarity/dissimilarity of them as players? For me, it would have been near the top of the dissimilarity rankings. And yet...
Re: Trivia
Players and minutes under Presti (over 12.4 seasons):
116 played
5 over 10k minutes
Just 13 over 5k (this and every other such subtotal includes all who meet that criteria)
23 over 2.5k
49 over 1k
53 under 500 minutes
24 under 100 minutes.
For comparison, players and minutes under Morey:
136 played
3 over 10k minutes
13 over 5k
30 over 2.5k
52 over 1k
67 under 500 minutes
31 under 100 minutes.
Same timeframe for Spurs:
102 played
7 over 10k minutes
14 over 5k
28 over 2.5k
42 over 1k
51 under 500 minutes
26 under 100 minutes.
Same timeframe for Warriors:
116 played
6 over 10k minutes
12 over 5k
22 over 2.5k
52 over 1k
39 under 500 minutes
17 under 100 minutes.
fwiw. Distributions more similar than different. Longevity with same team is very rare (so draft expectations of it happening are way off). Lots of passing thru and brief tryouts.

Re: Trivia
Over the last 4.4 seasons, 33 players have played 10k plus minutes (for anyone). 216 over 5k. 506 over 1k. 153 for less than 100 total minutes. 912 total players with minutes. The median is 1364. The mean, I believe, is 2,867. Of course not everyone was around the whole time as players come and go.
Would want career averages too. Maybe later. That is a little trickier to specify & find for those done with careers.

Re: Trivia
Tony Snell of Atlanta is 27-47 on 3-pointers this season. That .574 is by far the highest of anyone with even 12 3FGA.
Inside the arc, he's just 3-19. That .158 is by far the lowest 2FG% of anyone with more than 7 2FGA.
He also hasn't attempted a single FT in his 294 minutes. And it's not as if he would avoid them: He's made his last 36 FTA, dating back to 2019.
Aleksej Pokusevski of OKC has gone 296 min. without a FTA. He's been quite bad from both 2 (.351) and 3 (.179), so his .301 eFG% (on 93 FGA) is by far the worst in the league on >32 FGA.
Tony Snell's .659 is top 10, among those with as many tries.
In Phoenix, SF Abdel Nader has played 190 minutes without an offensive rebound. That is 2 1/2 times the drought of the next longest, Bol Bol of Denver.
Miami SF Duncan Robinson has just 2 O-Reb in 1073 min. No other 1000-minute frontcourt player has fewer than 18.
Dallas C Boban Marjanovic has gone 138 minutes without a steal; that's almost 50% longer than anyone else -- and he has blocked only one shot in that time. No other C has gone even 40 min. with so few.

Re: Trivia
Updates: Tony Snell hit 2-2 FT last night. He also was 2-2 on Mar. 13, after at least 464 minutes of play this season.
So he's made his last 40; he hasn't missed one in more than 2 years, 98 games, 2400+ minutes.
And he's officially leading the league in 3fg% at .571
Pokusevski held a .301 eFG% (and TS%) for 17 games before going to the G League and doing a bit more. Now he's back as a starter for nine games, blistering the nets at .405 eFG% and -- with 15/16 FT! -- a TS% of .451
Bol^2 now leads in OReb-less minutes (107) as Mr Nader has collected a cool 7.
In 180 minutes, big Boban now has a steal! and 3 blocks

Re: Trivia
Watching highlights from last night, I saw a couple of nice dunks from Mr. Antetokounmpo. Then in the boxscore, I saw he had gone 3-10 from inside the arc.
Every Milwaukee starter shot better from 3 than from 2.Even if we attribute all (5/8) FTA to short shots, the inside only sports a .347 TS%
The bench added 10 treys and 4 deuces (+1 FT). Bucks got 71% of their points from the arc.

In Monday's overtime win vs Charlotte, Laker PG's Westbrook and Rondo totaled exactly 53 minutes.
Russ had a triple-double, and the Lakes were -17 in his 41 minutes. Rajon went 12 scoreless minutes that LA won by +20

Re: Trivia
For this year's playoffs, the leader in both Win Shares and VORP was not on a team that reached the Finals. How rare is that?
These postseasons by MJ and LBJ were truly transcendent. Was Jimmy Butler equally incredible?
He actually missed a game and played sparingly in a couple of others. In 17 games he did more than those Finalists did in 22-24. He wins both columns by a good margin.

I don't see any time a non-Finalist led in just one of WS/VORP; and no time pre-VORP (<1974) when a non-Finalist was #1 in WS.

Re: Trivia
I’m curious to see Butler’s performance next season considering how well he played this playoffs — he seemed to reach a higher level.
Re: Trivia
Jimmy Butler and LeBron James had an epic battle for supremacy in the 2020 Finals. Thru 5 games, JB had the upper hand by most measures:
These were their numbers (along with Anthony Davis') thru 4 , 5, and 6 games.

After that he had arguably his best regular season (though missing some games), followed by certainly his worst ever postseason. You just never know what you're gonna get from this guy.
