APBeerMetrics & Sunday Basketball

Post by mikez »

The return of Sloan means the nation's basketball geeks will gather in Boston again. Hooray!

As I have every year since the very first year of Sloan, I'll be glad to welcome our community to grab a drink Thursday night before the conference. Unfortunately (it still makes me sick to my stomach to type it), the longtime home for this gathering, The Fours, once recognized as the #1 sports bar in America by SI, is closed forever.

(See more info here: https://www.si.com/more-sports/2020/11/ ... aily-cover )

So, I'm working on a new venue. More info on that in the next week or two. But there will be a Thursday gathering.

Also unfortunately, the ongoing pandemic means that we won't have our usual Sunday AM pickup basketball run; venues just aren't available for it right now. I expect this to return at next year's Sloan.

Thanks everyone for your support for this community over the years, and can't wait to see you all here in Boston.

Does the city's mandate update change anything?

The Fours is gone, but that’s no reason to stop gathering the night before Sloan. That night is a home game night (vs MEM), but we’ve gotten Banners, a new bar/restaurant attached to the garden, to hold their upstairs/mezzanine level for nba stats people from 9-12:30. So feel free to stop by as you always have the night before Sloan! I might be a little late getting there, as we’ve got a game, but they’re open and ready for people anytime before 12:30. Just go up to the mezzanine level, even with the middle of the big screen. Apologies of course for the traffic around game time; believe it or not this is the first time there's been a home game on the Thursday before Sloan. I expect this spot to be quieter in future years.

Thanks and see you soon!

PS. Like anywhere these days, I am not responsible if you get covid at this event. Attend it (and anything else in this world these days) at your own risk.
