Hollinger's turnover ratio data

Post by Crow »

http://espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/teamst ... noverRatio

The data here on Hollinger's table for turnover ratio is very different than basketball-reference's values (with the same formula) and look way wrong. Do you agree or am I missing something?

No, you are not missing something. Hollinger's turnover rate presented on ESPN is completely wrong. I already wrote TWO mails in order to tell them, but both got ignored.

It seems like there is an error in the equation used for those numbers. I can reproduce the numbers on ESPN by using:

100*TO/((FGA+0.44*FTA)/2+TO) = TO-R

Btw, it is not the only thing wrong on that page. Pace doesn't look correct either.

Hollinger's player TO ratio formula also factors in assists. Is this what he's doing with the teams as well?

TO/((FGA+0.44*FTA)+TO+AST) = TOR

EDIT: NVM, seems like the team data is completely inaccurate

The inclusion is still worth noting. I off & on remember that he does something different there.
