Sizing up some careers: Kidd, Hill, McGrady ...

Post by Mike G »

Some recently retired players can be statistically compared to others in NBA/ABA history.
Per 36 minute rates are relative to 100 points and 44 rebounds per team, per game.
Equivalent totals are just those rates multiplied by minutes/36. Playoffs are included.
The difference between players is the sum of the difference of the square root in each category (eTotals in thousands)

Greer and Walker were teammates, a G and a F. Hill got Greer's assists and Walkers rebounds, and almost as many points.

Noah has never reminded me of Camby.

In a twisted way, I can see the comparison, though Noah has eclipsed that benchmark IMO.

Earlier in his career, Noah (like Camby) wasn't considered much of an individual post defender. They both lacked the requisite upper body strength, most of their defensive contributions came from their overall rebounding and team defense(Camby with his shot blocking, Noah with his mobility/hedging). Noah is a better playmaker but Camby was a superb lob passer. Both had funky shots

Swingmen, some guards who rebound more than they assist, mostly forwards who don't rebound a lot.
