So far this season efg% is higher than it has ever finished. Turnover rate, the lowest. Offensive rebounding, the lowest. FT rate, the 2nd lowest.
Just checked these.
How much of this is improvement in play vs. league / ref engineered change? If you wanted up n down, back n forth play with high positives and low mistakes and stoppages, this is what you'd engineer.

PF/100poss is the lowest it's been in some 40 years, 20.8 PF/100poss...
FTA/100poss is at the lowest it's been in some 40 years - 23.7 FTA/100poss. just 11 years ago it was at 28.5 FTA/100poss...
as teams have taken more 3s, less fouls have been committed and they have on average gotten to the FT line less...
shooting from the floor (eFG%) may be very high, but overall shooting or ScFG% (2s, 3s, and FTs) was higher in 09-10 and 08-09 (but not by much) as teams attempted more FTs...
because of so few FTAs, this season so far league average pts/poss is at 105.8 pts/100poss, ranking only 17th highest over the past 40 seasons...

Last year's eFG% (.502) was the highest ever, and both Pace (95.8 poss/48) and Pts/G (102.7) were the highest since 1993.
This season all 3 are eclipsed, at .503, 96.5, and 103.6 respectively.
Total rebounds avg 44.0, highest since the mid '80s.
3FGA at 26.4 per game are twice what they were in 1999 and 4 times what was seen in 1990. Increase of 9.5% just since last year is unprecedented since the short arc experiment.

Since 1980-81, the league avg height is shown as 6-7. Avg weight at that time was 205 lb.
In 1991, players weighed in at 209, and in 2001 they averaged 216.
In 2011 they topped out at 223. Since 2014 they've shed a pound a year, to 220 now.
It's small-ball, as the need to defend the arc has grown relative to the need to defend the paint. Elite scorers seldom meet elite defenders near the rim.
Adding all minutes by position (as called by b-r.com) we find the average number on the floor (NOF) by position:That's 2.23 Wings and 1.79 Bigs on avg, per team.
