Yeah it's early to start this talk, but no earlier than last year:

Even with advance warning, it was mildly a shocker.

Of players who have started fewer than half their games, here are the top 10 in either: Pts/G, Win Shares, or VORP:

Code: Select all

Pts/G Tm Win% PPG Min WS VORP

TJohnson Mia .348 14.1 1239 3.3 1.2

Clarkson LAL .327 14.1 1349 1.0 -.1
Randolph Mem .574 13.7 954 1.9 .2
Crawford LAC .638 11.9 1243 .4 -.7
Rivers LAC .638 11.9 1220 2.2 .3
BKnight Phx .333 11.9 920 .7 -.4

Win Shr. Tm Win% PPG Min WS VORP

Leuer Det .457 11.0 1069 3.3 1.1
Iguodala GSW .848 5.8 1113 3.2 1.1
Mills SAS .800 10.4 972 3.1 1.0
Faried Den .432 9.5 885 3.1 .8
D Lee SAS .800 7.0 794 3.1 1.0

VORP Tm Win% PPG Min WS VORP
Nogueira Tor .609 5.1 785 2.8 1.6
Ingles Uta .617 6.4 988 3.0 1.3
JJohnson Mia .438 11.3 1057 2.2 1.0
Since the award goes to "highest scorer on a winning team", it's Eric Gordon's to lose.
He's easily the #2 scorer for a top-5 team; only started 8 of his 46 games.

Qualifying players (< 50% of appearances have been starts) ranked by minutes show 100 with >638 min.
Of these, Gordon ranks 24th in PER (14.9), 14th in WS (2.9), 30th in WS/48 (.098), 27th in VORP (0.5), 35th in BPM (-0.7)
All these say he's an almost-average player [My eWins concurs]; still better than last year's winner.
